The concept of Mother's Day has been around for thousands of years, stretching back to ancient Greece and Rome. Those societies esteemed the matriarchs of the family and were also known to offer flowers as a sign of love and honor. In the 1600's, Western Europe celebrated "Mothering Sunday", which was actually a call to return to one's "mother church". However, it evolved into a celebration of mothers and their children, who would traditionally pick flowers on the way to church to give to their mothers. It wasn't until 1908, however, that Mother's Day appeared in the United States, championed by a woman named Anna Jarvis.
The affiliation between mothers and flowers has persisted through the years. In fact, Mother's Day is one of the biggest annual holidays in terms of flowers purchased. Of course, Blossom Flower Shops have always embraced the time-honored tradition of giving flowers as gifts; and in observance of Mother's Day, we have assembled a collection of luxurious and elegant flowers for Mom which we are confident she will love. Here are a few of our favorite Mother's Day arrangements, because one thing hasn't changed over the years - our Moms deserve the very best. Read More about Flowers for Mom on Mother’s Day »

There is nothing quite so carefree and joyful as a puppy - but sadly, these lovable animals face some fairly steep odds here in the U.S. when it comes to being brought up in a loving home. National Puppy Day was established to shine a spotlight on the necessity for spaying and neutering, the issues of shelter overcrowding, and the high rates of euthanasia. On March 23rd, organizers encourage all prospective pet owners to go to a local shelter to pick out their new furry friend, or to consider donating if they cannot adopt.
Blossom Flower Shops' talented designers can create any custom floral design you need - from the whimsical to the beautiful! If you want to honor the pet owners in your life, come speak to us. Read More about Recognizing Those Who Adopt Puppies »

There are nearly 36 million people who claim Irish descent here in the United States - and virtually all of them are likely to be able to trace their roots back to their ancestors who arrived in the 1800's, primarily through New York and Boston. And although there is some debate as to which city hosted the very first St. Patrick's Day parade, there is no doubt that our area knows how to celebrate this day! The iconic St. Patrick's Day parade, which marches down Fifth Avenue past St. Patrick's Cathedral, is one of the largest events of its kind in the United States. And Blossom Flower Shops is right in the spirit of the holiday, with beautiful green florals and designs for this popular day. Everyone is Irish on March 17th - so while you are wearing your green, dress up your home or office as well!
Did You Know? St. Patrick was a Catholic missionary to Ireland, but he was not Irish. His given name was Maewyn Succat, and he was born in Great Britain. He came by his love for Ireland in a strange way - after having being kidnapped by pirates as a young man, they held him captive in the green countryside.
