Flowers have played an important role in our societies, cultures and traditions since before we started writing about it. In Egyptian times they adorned funeral processions, in ancient Greece they were used as coronations crowns, and in Victorian times they were used to communicate secretly with a loved one. They have long been represented in the art of the culture as well – but on February 28, we will celebrate flowers as the art itself!
National Floral Design Day recognizes the sheer beauty of all the thousands of varieties of flowers, and how the creative arrangement of flowers can result in a truly spectacular, living work of art. One species or many, monochromatic or a range of hues; flowers are a diverse medium in which to work. By paying attention to line and composition, professional florists are responsible for masterpieces every day.
National Floral Design Day originated as a recognition of the birth date of Carl Rittners, who founded the School of Floral Design in Boston which bears his name. Known as a pioneer and most vocal champion of floral design education, professional florists around the country owe a debt to his work to teach floral design for decades, elevating it to a true art form here in the United States.
You may not have ever considered a floral arrangement artwork, but floral design experts utilize much of the same principles as artists or sculptors when constructing an arrangement. This February, on National Floral Design Day, commission the professionals at Blossom Flower Shops to design a bouquet that no one has ever seen before – give us a color scheme and a desired style, and we’ll create a unique floral arrangement specifically for you! Yonkers, White Plains, or throughout Westchester County – we’ll deliver a masterpiece that will grace your home or office with beauty.
