A Brief History: National Friendship Day was instituted by Congress in 1935, and since that time many other nations have joined the celebration. Although National Sisters Day was never officially inaugurated, it is still unofficially on the calendar, sharing the first week in August with Friendship Day. We think this is quite fitting, given that so many of us have both sisters and best friends that make our lives awesome.

Studies have shown that people who grow up with sisters are overall more content and happy with their life; tend to have more optimism, and are also more charitable. And those who grew up with close friends glean many of the same benefits. That alone is a great reason to honor them this month!
