The concept of Mother's Day has been around for thousands of years, stretching back to ancient Greece and Rome. Those societies esteemed the matriarchs of the family and were also known to offer flowers as a sign of love and honor. In the 1600's, Western Europe celebrated "Mothering Sunday", which was actually a call to return to one's "mother church". However, it evolved into a celebration of mothers and their children, who would traditionally pick flowers on the way to church to give to their mothers. It wasn't until 1908, however, that Mother's Day appeared in the United States, championed by a woman named Anna Jarvis.
The affiliation between mothers and flowers has persisted through the years. In fact, Mother's Day is one of the biggest annual holidays in terms of flowers purchased. Of course, Blossom Flower Shops have always embraced the time-honored tradition of giving flowers as gifts; and in observance of Mother's Day, we have assembled a collection of luxurious and elegant flowers for Mom which we are confident she will love. Here are a few of our favorite Mother's Day arrangements, because one thing hasn't changed over the years - our Moms deserve the very best. Read More about Flowers for Mom on Mother’s Day »

Mardi Gras dates back thousands of years to pagan celebrations of spring and fertility, When Rome adopted Christianity, the popular local traditions were integrated into the new faith. The wild revelry of Mardi Gras thus became a prelude to Lent, the 40 days of penance between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday. On the day before Ash Wednesday, revelers would feast on all of the meat, eggs, milk, and cheese they had in their homes to prepare for weeks of fasting, inspiring the name Fat Tuesday.
