Epic Rose Featured in Crains New York Magazine Size does matter this Valentines Day: At least, that's what 85-year-old Blossom Flower Shops would have shoppers believe. The Westchester retailer, which has outposts in both Yonkers and White Plains, will begin selling 5.5 foot stemmed roses on Thursday. "The blossom is the size of your hand, and they last around two weeks," says Blossom's owner, Kevin Kegan. This is his second year selling the giant stems- last year's batch of 100, imported fro Epic Farm in Quito, Ecuador, sold out on the first day. He ordered double that amount this year, but because of a freeze in Ecuador, he was only able to procure 100. The extraordinarily tall flowers are pricey- ranging from $29.95 for a single stem to $395.00 for a dozen in a case. But given the limited supply, Mr. Kegan expects they'll be snapped up.
