This summer WestchesterCounty will host the prestigious Empire State Games – the biggest sporting event second only to the Olympics. This is the first-time ever that it is being hosted by our county.
From July 25 through the 29, some of the finest amateur athletes in the state will compete in 31 different events at 12 locations – from colleges to parks - throughout Westchester.
We expect 6,000 amateur athletes and 15,000 spectators - families, friends and coaches - to visit our region. While Westchester will benefit tremendously from the games - with added business for restaurants, hotels, retail stores etc. – it is a very big undertaking and requires the support of the entire community.
More than 1,000 volunteers, from scorekeepers to medical personnel, are needed to run the games. And, while we already have commitments from some 200 volunteers, we need your help in recruiting more.
